Lanikai is a sliver of the windward coast — one road in, one road out, looped around the back of the neighborhood. The beach faces the Mokulua islets across protected reef water that stays a pale jade for most of the year. There are no hotels, no commercial buildings, and barely a sidewalk. The neighborhood's silence after sunset is conspicuous.
